Mercury Museum
The Mercury Museum, installed in the building recovered from the old mercury store of the “Cerco de Buitrones”. The building was built in 1941, it has a square floor plan, with an open interior patio, ground floor and basement. It´s made up of stone loadbearing walls and lime mortar. The main elevation shows a portal with an entrance arch, with two medallions and a pediment on a cornice.
In this building there are rooms dedicated to the geology and paleontology of the area, mercury sciences with interactive experiments on the physics and chemistry of mercury, the history of the metallurgy of this metal and the mercury weighing and packaging room. The basement is dedicated to the history of the mines and the transport from Almadén to the shipyard of Seville and from there to Africa.
