Almadén’s mining prisoners (1940-1944)
Year: 2012
Author: Ángel Hernández Sobrino/Javier Vinagre Moreno
Pages: 82
Measurements: 22 x 31 cm
Price: 5,00 €
Language: ES

Description:
In Almadén, the post-Civil War period coincided with a period of increased mining activity, since mercury had become a strategic metal at that time, desired by all countries contending in the Second World War. In order to obtain the greatest number of currencies possible, as mercury was sold in dollars, prisoner miners were used. They were forced to work “as an act of submission and reparation”, as per the words of the Patron himself.
